Review - Great Big Beautiful Life (Book by Emily Henry)

I finally finished Great Big Beautiful Life (Book by Emily Henry) today!

It’s a really cute and heart-warming book, with two characters who are kind of opposites.. at least that’s how they felt to me.. but both are bookish, thoughtful, and a little guarded in their own ways. The story is set in a small coastal town in Georgia called Little Crescent Island, which has this quiet charm with its beaches and occasional storms that kind of mirror the emotional waves in the story.

We follow along as both characters work toward being selected to write a book for a famous personality, which adds this creative push-pull to their dynamic. The narrative style was immersive and emotional at times.. it pulled me in gently but never felt overdone. The pacing felt just right: not too slow, not too fast. Kinda mid in the best way.

Honestly I didn’t fully connect with the protagonist on an emotional level, but I did feel empathy for them here and there, if that counts (lol). And of course, like all Emily Henry books, this one has that signature Emily Henry effect—you know, that mix of wit, longing, slow-burn moments, and characters figuring themselves out while falling in love. I really enjoy that about her writing.

But I’ll be real, Great Big Beautiful Life is way better than Funny Story for me!! Just hit different.

For the one you love? Anything. You unmake the world and build a new one. You do anything to give them what they need.
